As we launch this new site, we're excited to fully align what we communicate to our supporters with the evolution that has occurred within our organization in the last couple of years. Frankly, we've been more focused on getting the work done than documenting that shift. But, this new forum gives us an opportunity to let you all know why we think this work is important and why we plan on continuing to do it for as long as it takes.
SCALEAfrica's mission has shifted from fixing a localized problem at one school to a much more holisitic view of the link between education and sustainability that includes working toward long-term, culturally-relevant solutions. We have moved beyond a notion of “green” design as purely a physical thing and approach it as a means of improving social, economic, and public health conditions.
Better designed spaces encourage learning and community building and that equates to children that are supported in their pursuit of an education. With an education comes better economic opportunities, better access to information that can save your life, and a shared sense of purpose that can drive real change.
We use sustainable techniques as a means to a very critical end. We extract sand, rock, water from the school site for these buildings, but more importantly we hope to cultivate human potential – with parents, teachers and children participating in building schools and futures.
Thanks for visiting us on the new site. We hope you'll continue to check back to see the tangible impact that the work you support is having on the kids and families in Mfuwe.
