The annual benefit this year was an epic evening for us, bringing in many new faces and even more familiar ones! In case you missed it, the silent auction was a huge success and the African marketplace highlighted crafts, textiles, and those ingenious toy helicopters(!), made by the local community in Mfuwe.
It was also host to the first screening of the SCALEAfrica short documentary "Building Futures." The film follows two sisters, Mercy and Beauty Banda, as they go about the daily chores of their home life, the long road to school, and confronting the challenges of continuing their education in the face of daunting cultural and economic constraints. The film really brought the community of Mfuwe and the building projects to life, underscoring that education is a universal aspiration and that well-designed schools are instrumental to the students achieving that goal.
Through the efforts of our generous supporters, we were able to raise nearly $40,000 towards our next primary school project in Chamatwa Village!
That sum goes a long way toward our ultimate need for the project of $100,000. We are so incredibly appreciative of the support of SCALEAfrica and the students in Mfuwe. This event had incredible impact and one that will bring tangible and physical results. We know there will also be impacts beyond the quantifiable: the growing sense of hope, of expanded goals, and of shifting beliefs in what is possible in these kids.
As always, we thank you for your continued support of SCALEAfrica and look forward to seeing you at the next gathering! Best wishes, Erinn & Guy
