Happy Spring, SCALEFans! Thanks to everyone who came out to see the two film screenings during the last week March. We hope you enjoyed the evenings and the films. Getting you all together is always a great time and Guy and I are incredibly motivated by your support of the launch our next major initiative, Chitempha School.
And, a huge thanks to our anonymous supporter who generously offered a 100% match of donations to SCALEAfrica up to $10,000 after the event. Before the match and with your help, we raised $9750! The donor was so inspired by this participation, they donated the full $10,000 match amount. This will go a long way in getting Chitempha completed and is a great boost for SCALEAfrica.
We're also pleased to announce a new member of our team, Charlotte Lipschitz. Charlotte will be the SCALEAfrica Design Fellow for the Summer 2012. Currently a master's candidate in architecture at the Harvard School of Design, she brings a deep commitment to design for social change and a love of Africa to the table. She'll spend some of her time here in NYC, but then head to Mfuwe (where she lived and worked last summer at a safari lodge) to work with Geoff Renou and the community on Chitempha School, compressed earth block technology, and surveying the valley to determine the site for our next project. She'll be posting regular updates from the ground over the summer, so check back for her notes and photos from the field!
